AUDREY MAXEY
Liminal Ascension
Senior BFA Exhibition
Artist Statement
Liminal Ascension allows the viewer to peek inside the Creator’s mind as it was influenced by a spectrum of Christianity, Spiritualism, and Atheism. Ab Ovo Usque Ad Mala (a series of repurposed dolls I-IV) acts as physical manifestations of the emotions and thoughts experienced during each accepted iteration of religious doctrine. Creo Quia Absurdum Est, Respice Finem, and Barba Tenus Sapientes serve as unbridled products of Atheist release for the current state of the Creator’s mind. This culmination of works has given Maxey a feeling of weightlessness as they reflect on their continuous journey of self-actualization.
Ab Ovo Usque Ad Mala
I. I am exaggerated innocence empowered by my strong connection to Our Creator. I play the role expected of me.
II. I am willingly ignorant to the truth. I choose not to see contradictions or recognize my doubts.
III. I am the beginning of the end. I allow critique. I look beyond fallacies and fiction.
IV. I am a cycle of fear and peace. I enjoy unlearning and rebuilding my foundation once governed by Our Creator.
